I did not stay here but my friend and I are staying in Iseltwald down the road and decided to try the restaurant here for our first night. It is in a great location and we wanted views of the lake, so after a long travel day we were just happy to be here and excited to try a new place. We walked in and sat and then our waiter came over already with an attitude (mind you we had just been in france for a week so we are used to the attitude, but this was obviously directed toward us). My friend ordered a tap water which she had to pay for, and I asked if they had white wine, as the menu was in a different language and I couldn’t read it. He nearly rolls his eyes and responds “yes? we have white wine??” in that tone. I was waiting for him to tell me options of wine but after a long pause he just turns around to put in our order. Try to brush it off but then I get my wine and it is the tiniest glass i’ve ever received at a restaurant (i know this sounds dramatic but i swear). So anyways we order our dinner (splitting a steak because of the prices) and he tells us that it is an extra charge to split food and we have to pay for the extra plate and napkin?? As we are waiting for our food another couple receives their glasses of wine and i wish i had taken a picture because they were double, if not triple the size of mine (i was not given an option for sizes if that was the case) and they also received bread before their meal and condiments with their meal, neither of which we received. It just became clear they were getting better service, and I should also add that we were the only two groups in the entire restaurant the whole time, being served by the same waiter. The only good thing i have to say is that the steak was good. However the prices are crazy and the service was truly disappointing as a visitor and having done nothing to provoke it.
From the moment you walk through the door you are made to feel so at home. The hotel is in the most beautiful spot, the room was absolutely spotless & the food was out of this world!! All staff were jolly & willing to chat, we spent our …
We came to Strandhotel for dinner for our first night in Iseltwald. What was supposed to be an exciting evening turned disappointing very quickly. We were the only people in the restaurant so the server came over right away. My friend asked if they served white wine since unfortunately we cannot read the menu and our server was rude when telling her they did have white wine. I ordered water which he informed me that charge for tap water (?) never heard of that before but I didn’t want to not have a drink for my whole meal. When he came back he gave my friend the SMALLEST glass of wine I’d ever seen in my life. We ended up deciding on getting the sirloin for to share but then we were informed that we would be charged extra for a plate, fork, and napkin because we were splitting. I’m from the US so I know all about up charging but this was truly ridiculous, especially at the price the meal was already. It was more disappointing to see that the one other table in the entire restaurant was getting prime treatment with lots of check ins, condiments & bread brought to their table. Not to mention actually HUGE glasses of wine. I’m not picky by any means, I’m staying in a hostel but we were really disappointed by the price & service. On a more positive note, the steak was very very good!
They offer great view of the lake. We visited early morning and on a drizzly weekday so no crowds! We were the only one at the restaurant, or maybe just one other table occupied. Service was quick as well. We had coffee and croissants and it was a nice experience.
Our room, on the third floor, of the Strandhotel in Iseltwald is just delightful. Clean, bright, spacious and comfortable. The small private balcony with a view of Brienzersee is a real plus. With an exceptional restaurant downstairs you could stay inside, but the lure of the outdoors is strong here.
Rudest experience in whole of Europe. The waiter firstly did not seat us so we had to find a place ourselves. Since ours was a large party we had to add chairs to the table which was not possible at that table so we then had to change the table and shift to one which someone had vacated and was yet to be cleared. When we raised our hand to get the waiter's attention since he had not come to our table even once he suddenly got really offended and said "do you think I don't understand English?" with a scary look in his eyes. He then loudly lectured us about how we left a perfectly clean table and shifted to a dirty one ourselves, were pointing at the menu like we thought he didn't understand English and that we raised our hand to call him when it was obvious that he will be coming to our table. He "warned" us not to wave at him and when I say warn, I mean I was confident he will humiliate us the second we did something he didn't approve of He was so loud that the other tables stared at us which was honestly very embarassing. The restaurant at that point was not crowded at all so it was not like he was overworked or overwhelmed. There were totally 4 other tables being waited on by him and his colleagues. Looking at the other reviews, it is clear that this place is racist. I'd highly recommend that people from Asian countries not visit this place.
