Gran hotel. Vistas increíbles. Justo al lado del pequeño remonte T-bar y del fantástico centro nórdico para practicar esquí de fondo en invierno. Siempre una cálida bienvenida. Habitaciones tranquilas, cómodas, limpias y bien equipadas. Me encanta este lugar y regresaré a pesar de dos quejas: algunos miembros del personal se reúnen afuera de la parte trasera/del río/norte del hotel después del trabajo por la noche, hablando, riendo y fumando, el humo y el ruido suben (pude detectarlo en mi habitación; me despertaron). Esto duró 15, tal vez 20 minutos, cada noche que estuve allí. No fue un gran problema, pero interfirió con la paz y la tranquilidad. Además, si bien el servicio y el personal son excelentes y agradables, la comida es un poco valiosa. Las porciones eran pequeñas y la mayor parte del menú es exigente, muchas espumas y demás. Es divertido e interesante, pero como dijeron algunos de mis amigos locales (y yo estuve de acuerdo), es necesario que haya platos un poco más familiares, tradicionales y resistentes en el menú, como röstis y salchichas de ternera, truite meuniere y au bleu, escalopes y pastas. Me doy cuenta de que puede resultar aburrido para el chef, pero los clientes vienen al Berner Oberland por, bueno, los gustos del Berner Oberland. Pero no me malinterpretéis, volveré.

I had a disappointing—and very expensive—dinner at the Alpenland Hotel in Lauenen last night. Despite using good-quality ingredients, the chef transformed them into overly complicated pretentious dishes that undermined their natural character. Steak tartare was inexplicably paired with curry and pine nuts, while the gazpacho was filtered into an acidic liquid, stripping away the body and richness of the original dish. The veal cutlets, priced at an eye-watering 280 CHF per kilo, were vastly overpriced and again an unnecessarily elaborate sauce detracted from the natural succulence of the meat instead of showcasing it. In short: a beautiful terrace setting let down by fussy, overworked cooking. An overly expensive experience I cannot recommend.
I had not stayed there since 2007 and it was just great. Super renovation, nice, competent staff. We had room 210 which was quite dark, but the manager said they would try to correct the lighting. We went skinning directly from the hotel and it was wonderful. We will be back!
