Switzerland produces quiet, useful digital businesses at a remarkable rate. They rarely make international headlines, but they make daily life measurably easier. In this series we profile the ones worth knowing, and today's subject solves a problem every driver recognizes: knowing where to park before you get there.
Parkito.ch is a parking directory launched this summer from Bulle, in the canton of Fribourg. The pitch fits in one sentence: every practical fact about a parking, prices, opening hours, capacity, height limits and payment methods, collected on one clean page and one national map, free for everyone.
The product
The centrepiece is an interactive map of Switzerland where every published parking is a clickable pin. A search bar suggests cities together with the number of parkings listed there, and every city gets its own landing page. Listings go deep for a free product: full tariff tables, disabled spaces, surface type, operator names and accepted payment methods.

The business model, or the refusal of one
What makes Parkito interesting as a business case is its restraint. There is no booking engine, no commission, no premium tier. Browsing needs no account; a free signup merely adds a favourites list for returning users who prefer to log in and find their saved parkings. The team is clearly betting on becoming the reference first and monetizing attention later, a patient strategy more common among Swiss builders than Silicon Valley ones.
The team and the data
The founders describe themselves plainly on the about page: a small Swiss team obsessed with data quality. Listings merge official open data, operator input and manual verification, and the public is invited to report inaccuracies through the contact form, with verified fixes shipped within days. Parking operators can claim and correct their own listings free of charge through the same channel.
Why it matters
A third of urban traffic is drivers searching for parking. Reliable information, freely available in eight languages, removes a small but real friction from Swiss daily life, for residents and for the millions of visitors who drive here every year. That is exactly the kind of quiet infrastructure this series exists to highlight.
