Braunwald, Switzerland is a peaceful, car-free mountain village in the Glarus Alps. Accessible only by funicular, it offers stunning alpine views, fresh air, and a calm, family-friendly atmosphere. In summer, enjoy scenic hiking trails like the Fairy Tale Path; in winter, it becomes a cozy ski retreat with gentle slopes. Braunwald is a true hidden gem for nature lovers and anyone seeking a quiet escape.
Absolutely loved this place and could have spent many more days exploring! The people we encountered were really friendly and the hike to the top and ride back down on the vernacular railway was just amazing! We'll be back with (cow) bells on!! 💕
Run like a Swiss clock. Soo beautiful up there.
We visited Braunwald relatively off-season and had quite a difficulty to fit in to the funicular. I can only imagine how it looks during summer weekends. The train goes every 30min and with halbtax we paid 30chf for Linthal-Grotzenbüel. The lady at the cashdesk was very kind and helpful.
Good value for money, especially with a Swiss ‚Halbtags Karte.‘ The funicular runs every 15 minutes and the gondola every 30 minutes.
Really good place for hiking with stunning views.
