Delicious food and a cozy, atmospheric interior with a truly local, traditional feel
We asked our AirBnB host where we could get local food for dinner. She pointed way up the hill to this less-populated and verdant Spiez neighborhood seemingly out in the middle of nowhere. The vibe was somewhat eclectic yet traditional, with bucolic lake and mountain vistas awaiting indoor and outdoor guests perched along large windows on this uncharacteristically warm late-August evening. The Chicken Cordon Blue was nicely executed, though I wish I would have ordered the pasta side instead of the waiter brining the default French fries. A nice dessert treat was the frozen Parfait Mokka, and our chosen accompanying sauce included orange liqueur. For my American readers, and as you’ve probably heard before, most servers in these parts don’t dote over their guests with frequent check-ins and drink refills, but rather get down to business minimalist-style. This restaurant was no exception. A definite recommendation to give it a try.
The hotel is definitely in a nice location. The rooms are quite large but very dated. The food is not bad but it is pricey. The management is very unfriendly and does not comply with its agreements. They charge more than agreed. The mother of the owner in particular is very unfriendly and rude. I will never go back here again.
The best place in the area that I have been to for far reaching views over the Lake of Thun. The main patio area is glass covered so there is plenty of seating whatever the weather.
We had a dinner here. It was a food with a view experience.
Although the the view of Thunersee is quite nice, the food was very disappointing. The classic schnitzel arrived undercooked and nearly raw. When I mentioned it, the waitress seemed more annoyed than anything. A new plate came back a few minute later with a new but SMALLER piece than before ! Still, the schnitzel tasted nothing like the schnitzels I have eaten in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. All this for the hefty price of CHF 28 !
