Mont-Bell in Grindelwald, Switzerland is a solid stop if you need quality travel gear last minute or want to upgrade what you brought. I picked up a few pieces of travel clothing. The staff were helpful (thanks Jake!) and patient while I compared options without rushing me. The shop is well organized, with sturdy jackets, layers, and small essentials for hiking around the region. Highly recommend for anyone needing gear that actually lasts rather than quick souvenirs.

I’m a huge fan of Montbell — truly one of my favorite outdoor and travel brands. I first discovered it in Japan, in Fukuoka (ABCI), and since then it has been my go-to place for lightweight, functional, and beautifully made gear. Unfortunately, Montbell stores are still quite rare outside Japan, so when I found out there’s one in Grindelwald, I decided to come here especially to visit it. However, on my way to the shop, I had an accident — I fell and hurt my arm quite badly, it was bleeding. I didn’t have any first-aid kit or even a bandage, so I thought maybe the store could help, or at least show some kindness. I asked where the restroom was, but the staff just said it was across the street and didn’t offer any help or concern. Of course, I understand the staff are not Japanese, but still, I was very surprised by the complete lack of empathy. In Japan, Montbell always feels warm, caring, and human — here it felt the opposite. I didn’t buy anything that day, even though I really wanted to. My love for Montbell as a brand remains unchanged — it’s still my favorite for travel and outdoor gear. But I truly hope the Grindelwald store team can be a bit more human, kind, and welcoming. It really affects how people feel about the brand.

If you are in Grindelwald and debating which sportswear or weather gear store to visit then go here because the amount of knowledge the salespeople have here is alone worth the visit! I learnt so much about what pieces are better for the what conditions and what to look for when buying a jacket or waterproof pants. Also another reason to pay the visit is to see one of the only 2 Montbell stores in Europe! The founder climbed the mountain here and modified the clothes to fit the conditions perfectly.
