The Taverne Restaurant — Wengiboden 1398b, 3823 Wengen BE, Switzerland

I had a wonderful stay in Wengen. The accommodation was perfect – very comfortable, well-maintained, and everything I needed for a relaxing stay. The location is excellent, just a short walk from Wengen station, which made traveling around the area extremely convenient. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Wengen.

We visited Taverne Wengen for fondue. Unfortunately, we were served a fondue pan with a clearly damaged coating. The surface had several holes, parts of it were broken through, and some areas were already heavily rusted. This was a real appetite spoiler for us. Such damage does not happen overnight. After every wash, it should be immediately obvious that this pan is no longer suitable for use. Kitchen utensils in this condition should be disposed of and not repeatedly used. Since the service staff spoke very limited German, we spoke directly with the chef. He did throw the damaged pan away, but when we suggested checking the other pans as well, there was no clear response or reassurance, rather a lowered head. That did not leave us with a good feeling. It may seem unusual to address this directly in the kitchen, but in this case it was not a minor mistake. The condition of the pan showed clear signs of repeated use despite the visible damage. To be fair, the fondue itself tasted good. However, the hygiene concern unfortunately overshadowed the entire experience.

The food was really good. Went on Christmas and our waiter Ruud made it so awesome - he walked us through the menu, gave us suggestions on what to get so it all tastes good together, how many of each thing to get. Super nice and helpful guy. I would go back just to have him as our server 🤌 Merry Christmas

Restaurant Taverne Bernerhof From the time we entered the restaurant, until we left, we had a great experience! The staff are very attentive, without being pushy. The portions are huge and amazing value for price. We had Rosti Pork Sausage with onion sauce and the Schnitzel with vegetables and fries, both were well prepared and delicious! The schnitzel dish was so big I didn’t eat the huge portion of fries. Such a great experience that we are going back on Saturday!

Hot stone, yummy (non-standard, chilli, mushrooms, etc., see image) fondues. Great service and cosy ambiance. Fully recommend for a nice dinner, the price is good value for what you get.
