TLDR: This was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. Context I have been fortunate enough to travel across more than 10 countries with diverse cultures and customs. As a former consultant, I have spent significantly more nights in hotels than my partner would have ever preferred. While I pride myself on the ability to adapt, I also have a clear understanding of what constitutes good quality, especially within the hospitality industry. Detailed Review With that background, I can confidently state that this hotel absolutely does not deliver the "4-star experience" it claims to offer. Below are the primary reasons for this rating: (1) Rude and Unprofessional Staff I called the reception desk to request two extra pillows. The staff member's abrupt response was: "There are no pillows available," with no apology or explanation offered. When I stated, "This is disappointing for a 4-star hotel," the staff member simply replied, "Okay." I understand that hotel demand fluctuates, and running out of items can happen; however, a simple apology would have been a minimal expectation. This level of cavalier attitude and lack of professionalism was deeply disappointing. (2) Illogical Phone Setup Subsequently, I attempted to call reception via the room phone to request hot water. The staff member immediately stated, "Sir, you dialed an emergency number. Do you have an emergency? There are no non-emergency services available after 10 PM." While I can accept a policy of no services after 10 PM, I find the phone setup illogical and concerning. The hotel has set the main Reception button to connect directly to the emergency line, despite there being a separate, clearly marked Emergency button on the phone. This setup is misleading and potentially dangerous. Furthermore, the rude attitude of the staff (related to Point 1) only exacerbated the frustration. (3) Dirty Dishes and Cups Breakfast was available only from 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM. Again, while I don't consider this a reasonable service level, I accept that it may be hotel policy. When I went to get a glass of water, the cups available were visibly dirty (as shown in the attached picture). If this were a 1- or 2-star establishment, I would simply laugh it off and select another cup. However, for a hotel that purports to be 4-star, this lapse in basic hygiene and quality control is frankly unacceptable. Summary I was profoundly disappointed with this entire experience. I did not feel welcome, and it was clear that the hotel staff did not grasp the fundamental concept of "service". I would not recommend this hotel, even to my enemies.
Definitely a five star stay- comfortable rooms, great bar with a terrace to enjoy summer evenings, friendly and attentive service. Quite enjoyed the wellness centre with a properly hot Finnish sauna, warm and cold showers. Special compliments to the chef for excellent dinner in a hotel restaurant. Two minor observations to the hotel management: temperature in a steam room was a little low when you’re seated. By contrast, the zimmer itself was a little hot and we couldn’t open the second small window as it didn’t have a mosquito net.
Very easy check in and check out. We did a dinner bed and breakfast package. Including the wines and drinks total around 500 for the night. Breakfast was good and diverse, the dinner was too much that we couldn’t order the dessert and was reasonably good with good wine and nice service. Overall experience felt part luxury but around the hotel outside of the gardens isn’t so lovely , but we enjoyed this for a one night stay. The room was comfortable with a very nice bed and pillows and generally pretty quiet.

We have had a wonderful stay at Schloss Hüningen. The fixed menu could offer a bit more options though and the Schlossbar more ambience (too bright) but all in; a great experience! Thanks to the team.
